When a negative thought go through your mind, don’t resist it. The more you resist a particular state of mind, the stronger it becomes. The mind is like a clear blue sky, and the hindrances are the clouds. Working this way, you recognize that there was a hindrance, and just observe it.
You are now watching how it unfolds in the space of our mind in the form of fantasies, anxieties, and images… keep track of all that occurs. You watch closely, but try not too involved in the process; otherwise, it will only ‘feed’ the obstacles. If you observe patiently, not too engaging, so obstacle eventually lose strength and dissipate - TNTQ

- Thich Nu Tinh Quang (Phuong Thi Van) is a Vietnamese-American nun. Born in 1969 in Hue, Vietnam, she currently lives in Garden Grove, California. She became a Buddhist nun in 1978. She received teachings from her own Dhamma teacher, Venerable Dieu Khong and was ordained as a Bhikkhuni in 1989. She is the abbot of Dieu Khong Temple in Garden Grove. In addition to being a PhD in religious studies, she is a poet, author, and translator.
