Quiescence and Movement

Quiescence is regarded as 'emptiness', and movement is considered as same as 'existence'. On the surface of phenomena, ‘existence’ and ‘emptiness’ is a pair of categories that proceed and interact together. The movement of the cosmic sphere, according to astronomy, is within the gap of the cosmos; this is looked alike the space in Taoism and the vacuum in Buddhism for full description is true Emptiness and wonderful Existence.

So the ‘existence’ comes from the ‘emptiness’. And the ‘emptiness’ comes from where? This question is no longer the question, and questioning the ‘emptiness’ is just silly. .

In order to attain the Sūnyatā or boundless mind, we must have a great mind, without distinction and contradiction; this is where the Zen says unthinking what might be good or wrong. In La voix du Silence, also the emptiness-voice said, let your heart is a deep ocean embracing all lakes and rivers ... The serenity of the ocean is always infinite because it never feels dried (sois comme l’Océan qui recoit tous les ruisseaux et toutes les rivières. Le puissant calme de l’Océan reste immutable, il ne les sent pas).

When a practitioner enters into Sūnyatā, certainly, it is certainly not leaving bustle but keeping the silence in the bustles only. Unrejecting the bustle, and unconflicting with the noise is person’ state who has wisdom; just riddance from the movement is the cultivator’s emptiness mind.

Seeing the ego’s nature is 'emptiness', then all anxiety and suffering in human life will change and evaporate; therefore, we also can see living and death are just two notes of black and white on the pianoforte to come back wonderful emptiness.

Maryse Choisy, a French philosophical writer, has a famous writing: 'The whole universe is just a battleground, in which there is an inexhaustible love song'. In the contradictory of conflict, the pain of the world, of the human bondage, there is a harmony, a love, endless compassion. And if there is no endless love song, then quiescence, Pure Land or Nirvana is just empty completely, meaningless.

Realizing quiescence in movement, harmony in conflict, freedom in slave, one in others, and love instead of hatred ... we can enter the door of mysterious Sūnyatā (emptiness) that from which we go out.
